There are three main area of interest, including a wonderful farmyard and exotic display. You can see everything from chimps, monkeys and gibbons through to llamas and emus.
International Antarctic Centre Christchurch has played a significant role in the history of Antarctic exploration and the International Antarctic Centre opened on 28 September 1992. The Centre, developed by Christchurch International Airport Limited, was established to support Antarctic scientific programme and has twice been judged the best attraction in New Zealand. Its architecture was inspired by icebergs, ice shelves and glaciers. Many activities and displays, including snow making and a NZ Penguin encounter, make the Antarctic Centre a fascinating place to visit for children and adults alike.
White Water Rafting If you are after the thrills of adventure at its very best, then look no further than the Rangitata River - one of the closest commercially rafted rivers to Christchurch and is in addition, undoubtedly one of New Zealand's most exciting stretches of white water. By the time you reach the rip-roaring Grade 5 section where the gorge narrows to a pinch, you're fully prepared and ready for action, including a jump off a 10m cliff.
